SEGA: London Olympic 2012

This is one of a head which is created for this game.
Honestly, for this title, I've created first very realistic human character models in my career.
It was tough, it forced me to achieve new level of skill, but I think I could achieve it.
This man is actually our exective producer, Mr. Darius :-)
This title is a first title of SEGA Studios Australia.
Our goal was really high, and on many points, I think we could achieve it.
On this character, I did the costume, and the archery as well.
Character props are included to character team's tusk.
Costumes, I did the shirt, the pants, and the glasses.
The shirt is reused for Archery player's shirt with the chest guard.
On the normal maps, fablic bumps are layered with overay, it gave the mesh, twill or rib details on the models.
This Rappid fire pistol as well.
In-game model, due to less aculacy of vertex normal culculation of the engine, it got some ugly lines in specular hi-lights.
Due to shareing hair assets, we only could have one head shape.
So, difference between the other heads is only face part. To me, it was initially crazy idea, but as long as seeing the result, it didn't give major visual issue luckily.

 
Actuslly, this is me.
I was forced to be one of a reference for the athretes!
This is the "Master Mesh".

All heads sculpting and texture works always started from this.
In same time, this head is the final in-game mesh.
It means, all heads in this title share same topology, same UV.
It allowed to do morphing between any heads, then we could produced numbers of "mixed" faces.
Without it, we couldn't produce enough number of variation.

I estabblished the master mesh of male / female heads (they are same topology), and also master female body mesh.
 
After character artists' work, tech artist set pretty comprecated facial rig and skin weight data with automatic adjustment system.
It was actually surprising!
The result of it is this. I respect their work deeply!

An example of female head's sculpting.
Female swimmer. I did the base female body mesh making, sculpting, and texturing.
On her case, I did head and hair as well.
Female Gymnast. I did all, base body, leotard, and head.
On their propotion, they needed to be short height, also wide shoulder, thick chest, small hips.
Even though, they need to be seen atlactive. Tricky one.
Leotard has to fit, but still need a bit of thickness. And also the fablic can be recognized with the pinched folds details.

In game, different textures made the variety.
Zipper detail of the in-game model. This part is made by tiling uv layout with Normal map to get the details.
This is other body type of female athlete, for 400m runner, more musculer.
